Mariétte was born in the Western Cape. She grew up in Kraaifontein where she went to school In 1997 she moved to Bloemfontein, where she obtained her B.Tech degree in Fine Art at the Free State Technicon (now CUT) in 2001.

She is a versatile artist working with both acrylics and oil, and explores different themes ranging from figure and portrait studies, to landscapes.

For the past 16 years Mariétte has also given painting classees for adults at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum.
